Artists in the Hospital: In Their Own Words

Artists in residence are frequently asked what it’s like for a highly skilled professional artist to work in a hospital setting. We asked the artists to answer this question in their own words and in their own individual ways based on their specific discipline.

While each discipline is unique, there are universal threads in this work that are rooted in compassion, empathy, and the desire to serve others through the arts. In each of these writings and videos, we see the artist’s capacity to engage, to listen in the moment, to use their skills to provide comfort and transform the hospital experience.
