Kris Sullivan, Program Manager

Kris has served as coordinator and now Program Manager for the UF Health Arts in Medicine program since 2003. Her responsibilities include program operations, fiscal management and project development. She is the communication liaison between administration, artists, hospital staff and the community at large.  She also curates rotating arts and health related exhibitions at the UF Health Cancer Hospital.

In addition to her administrative duties, Kris facilitates visual arts activities in the greater Gainesville community.  Current programming includes weekly artmaking workshops for differently abled adults at Grow Hub.  She also offers a monthly workshop for veterans called Art in the Gardens, a visual arts series focused on the natural world (paused due to Covid-19).

Why Arts in Medicine?

I have always had an immense appreciation for the creative process and found the arts to be essential in addressing adversities in my life.  My work with Arts in Medicine has taught me a great deal about the value of artistic engagement and the extraordinary power of creativity.  Most of what we facilitate is intuitive in nature allowing for a process that is both freeing and exploratory.  We strive to create environments that are open and accepting, which in turn fosters inspiration in even the most adamant “non-artist”. Often it is simply a matter of exposure. It is a true honor to bare witness to an individual’s recognition and application of their creative potential. I strongly believe this empowerment aids individuals in their healing processes.
